Funny blackbird story

And by blackbird, i mean the silver-black screaming monster of Kelley Johnson's craked mind, the SR-71.

It's good to have a little buddy that's smaller than you:)

Okay, so here's the current plan for the picture game:

Starting in Memphis -
[info]surlyride
[info]accipiter
[info]rabidlemur
then, off to florida to
[info]elisel
up to BFE TN to
[info]shutterbugjones
then, to dc, to
[info]spidersweb
then, to NYC, to
[info]paigeriffic
then back to memphis to
[info]sumatrae
and finally to
[info]troutqueen
Who will take her shots, and tell her husband to get processing.

There's room for 1-2 more players, so last call!

Simple rules: Each person has 3 shots - no more, no less, so make 'em count! - and, once done, they get the camera to the next player. I wanted to use Kodachrome, in honor of it's passing, but it's not available right now since everyone else in the world is feeling nostalgic, so it'll be happy color film, since it's bright and summery and we should appreciate such things while they're here.

I'll get them developed and scanned and placed on Flickr, so if ya want prints you can get get them at your closest target, or just grab the scanned version.

Silly game:

I'm thinking of aping an idea I saw elsewhere, and sending a camera around to people who want to play.

The proposed rules would be, that say 10 people play - each person gets 3 shots, and then sends the camera on to the next perosn. The last person sends the camera back to me, where i'll develop the film and scan and etc.

Any interest?

I also need more Kodak Ektalure paper. it was discontinued in 1996. Anyone know of a good time-distortion mail order shop?

Random questiion:

If you were given $100, $1000, or $10,000 dollars, and HAD to spend every bit of each on your own personal hobby, what would you get? Think of it like Brewster's Millions, you HAVE to blow it all in a orgy of self-satisfying splendor.

dear wordpress and shopplugin: you don't suck. thanks for not sucking, as it's made my day quite nice.

Shopp is a such a little cute webstore, with so many things missing, but if it does what you need, teh best stupid-proof ecommerce plugin for Wordpress, and hackable quite easily within it's limits.

And in unrelated news, got a little sink made to drain into the laundry room wall drain, that my print washer can sit in, so now i don;t have to leave darkroom to plop prints in das washer.

and also unrelated, have mad crazy desire for a game. I think i would almost play GURPS at this point.

Okay, I lie, but I would at least THINK about it.

so i went from reading The Hob's Bargain, by Patricia Briggs - a good fantasy with a romantic thread, to Achtung Panzer!, by Heinz Guderian - which is the primer on amored mobile warfare written by the man that helped invent it. So, my brain should have an issue switching gears, but it doesn't.

What's mildy disturbing is how persausive Guderian is - the first chapter is not about tanks, but rather, the necessity of power with limited natural defenses and a lack of access to resources to find an effective means to wage quick, successful war. It outlines, quite clearly, the position Germany was in and how critical a quick end to any war with a major power like the USSR, UK, or USA would have to be in order for Germany to win.

I can see, how a young person, convinced of their nation's potential, and beliving in the power of new ideas and technologies to save their nation, could focus only on these aspects and ignore and try and forget the other elements of the nazis - especially if they could lie to themselves and pretend that by not joining the party, they were one of the 'good guys'.

I think i'm going to swap to the Arnold Bester next - but there's nazi's in there, too.....

okay, so Shopp, a plugin for WordPress to do ecommerce, is dern sweet. Takes a tad of customizing, but it's easy work, and it's very easy for the folks to maintain once the devloper runs away. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay easier than Zen Cart or the like. Cheap at 55 bucks.

And in other news, still looking for grown up work. whee-hah. Forgot that the biggest challenge of freelancing is not treating the cost that you bid as your budget to get things done:) Like, you need that money to live on and stuff:)

Looking to use shopp plugin for word press, instead of clunky zen cart, but afraid of writing my own payment module. sigh. this requires actual thinking.

perhaps i should sleep.

It's juts a bit of driving:)

and i'm a grownup, because i took off the sam kinneson from teh ipod to put more kid's songs on it. Probably should not play richard pryor on the drive down with alex, but having started to listen to his albums this week, he's brilliant.

i love goolge translate:)

The Japanese term 'boke', or 'bokeh', er somesuch, is used to denote out-of-focus rendering - what the blurry bits in yor pictures look like - Aparently it's a hard word to directly translate:

The aperture opening is set off with creating a three-dimensional motif combined with mild dementia focus is straightforward. In addition to the sharp delineation絞RI込ME, one can begin to guide the expression in a variety of photo lenses.

so, in order to get alex prepped for Disney, and to get him tired out, we walked to the store and did a bit of light grocery shopping - he's a little ball of energy now, was running about half the way back, when he wasn't walking backwards, pushing mommy, pushing daddy, or riding on mommy's shoulders and laughing his deep belly laugh:)

Disney is going to be fun, although, not so sure that teh stroller will be used for anything but holding bags:)

The leica, or the digital nikon, or hell, trout's small canon digicam would have been much easier.....but what's the fun in that?
